Self Portrait Redux

So, I was looking at my original Self Portrait and as its been a few weeks ago I saw it with fresh eyes.
I have been learning new ways of rendering skin tone and texture. And tho I am a million miles away from any form of getting it down, I decided to apply it strait to my original portrait.

I used the circle method and one I find more in my comfort zone (not a fan of thatching) and built they layers up from-

4h to 2h and so on to a 2b for the dark areas

On Canson XL Mixed Media 98lb 11x14 paper

About 20ish hours including Skin tone redux.

I would love to know what you guys think of the difference and if your into realism, please point my in the way of rendering skin tone and texture (been trying to think of that word) texture is what I'm after and have no clue how too....
